The Sonoran Desert

The Sonoran Desert is an arid desert and covers aprox. 120,000 square miles in southwestern Arizona and southeastern California, most of Baja California and the western half of the state of Sonora, Mexico.

Here in the Sonoran Foothills we have the majestic Saguaro cactus among the many other cactus and desert flora. National Geographic has referred to this area of the Sonoran Desert as "The most beautiful desert in the world." With the average summer climbing as hot as 115 in the shade down to below freezing overnight at times in the winter, it is an incredible place. The plants and animals are so well adapted to this wide range of temperature and rainfall, we would have to agree that it is not only beautiful but amazing too.

Below are some of the wildlife I photographed on our farm. I have not photographed any of the coyotes, javelina, rattlesnakes, or bobcats that our fence keeps out or the many ravens that visit.
